Our microbiomes are a part of us.

Our bodies contain more than just human cells – we also have many microbes living on and in us, especially in our guts. Your microbiome is the genetic makeup of all microorganisms inhabiting your gut. These microbes have many important roles, and by sequencing their DNA, we are able to identify them and help interpret what they are doing.

Microbes have many roles in our bodies, which includes:

  • creating important metabolites such as short chain fatty acids and essential vitamins

  • helping us digest our food

  • involvement in immune responses

  • affecting our brains

Microbes are modulated by many factors, and may be affected by diet changes, physical activity, environment, medications, lifestyle, stress, sleep, and more.

Whole Genome Shotgun Sequencing

with NirvanaBiome

At NirvanaBiome, we use whole genome shotgun sequencing (also called WGS), for consistent, high-quality results and genome identification.

- - -

With whole genome shotgun DNA sequencing, we are able to characterize the microbes found in your gut and understand some of the functions they may be performing. You will find estimates of the amount of microbes that were identified in your sample, and can compare your microbes to our group of more than 800 healthy people.
